3/30/2023 0 Comments Putty for mac homebrew![]() I think that's a good thing for cross-app keys and keychain integration, but some might feel that makes iTerm2 "not an ssh client". Official versions of Putty are available on Unix-like platforms, and now its widely available for Mac systems running OS X 10.11 or later. Having said all that, it does not manage ssh keys. And, of course, iTerm2's multi-window tmux integration, session recovery, and password management are mostly intended for use over ssh. putty Install command: brew install putty Implementation of Telnet and SSH License: MIT Formula JSON API: /api/formula/putty.json Formula code: putty. It has a built-in file upload and download via scp. On macOS, you can install SSHFS using Homebrew: brew install -cask macfuse brew install. It will optionally report and graph bandwidth used over an individual ssh connection. WSL 2 does include FUSE and SSHFS support, so this will change soon. It automatically lists (under Profiles) ssh hosts on your local network if they are running avahi/bonjour and sshd, and will even connect to all of them at once with a single click. So, my answer is "yes", because iTerm2 is very ssh-aware. On OSes that come out-of-the box with ssh (ie macOS, Linux, OpenBSD and FreeBSD), client software that re-implements the ssh layer is rightly viewed with suspicion, and software that is simply "ssh aware" is more common. It provides a GUI you can use to connect to, and configure, known servers. What Is PuTTY PuTTY is an SSH client and terminal rolled into one. ![]() It’s a classic Windows application, but developers have made it available to Mac users, too. On Windows, in the old days, SSH wasn't built-in, and clients like Putty had to implement their own ssh layer. PuTTY is a free, open-source SSH and telnet client. For a while my USB to FTDI serial communications used a program called. For normal ssh communications, The built in terminal app and screen command line interface programs do everything putty is needed to do on windows or other os. I guess that depends on how you define "SSH client" from a user perspective. I've now removed both programs due to breakage around gtk dependencies. But is it really an SSH client? Isn't it just a (very nice) replacement for Apple Terminal?
